about norbeck1About Norbeck Montessori School

Norbeck Montessori is a private school in Rockville, MD that was established in 1975 by Elizabeth Bissett. She founded this school and worked continuously here as a teacher and Director until her passing in September of 2010. The dream of Norbeck Montessori started as a small one classroom concept with approximately 20 children. It has since grown into a large 5-classroom facility with the capacity to teach up to 118 children. Our Montessori programs are designed to provide you and your child with a variety of options to meet your individual needs. We are open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Full-day and partial-day programs are available to children ages 2 to 6 years old.

about norbeck 2We know children have a natural and spontaneous curiosity and are constantly learning and applying skills and concepts from the world around them. We know children learn best through "hands-on" experience. By participating in the actual lessons and understanding them, the Montessori child develops an ability to problem solve, investigate and question. Using this methodology, your child develops a positive self-image as well as respect for themselves and those around them.

Norbeck Montessori Cooking ClassWe appreciate the individuality of each child and believe that no two children learn at the same pace, nor learn best by the same method. We provide a flexible and creative approach to best meet the needs of each child through an individualized learning plan addressing his or her own specific social and educational needs.

Norbeck Montessori Playground FriendsThe early learning experiences, as well as the people involved in their daily lives, have an important influence on the development of positive attitudes in the educational, social, emotional and physical aspects of your child. The growth and development of your child can best be achieved through a parent-teacher partnership with open communication. Parent-teacher conferences may be scheduled at any time. Observation of your child in their classroom is welcome and parent involvement in our activities is always appreciated.

We know that a safe, loving, nurturing environment is essential for the well-being of each child. This is the foundation of our Montessori program. Our staff is dedicated to providing an atmosphere and environment of security as well as an Norbeck Montessori Halloweenoutstanding instructional program to meet the needs of you and your child.

Norbeck Montessori FriendsNorbeck Montessori does not practice discrimination based upon race, color, or national origin in the admission of students or the employment of faculty or administrative staff.

Our mission is to not only build upon each child's academic skill set but to also help each of them grow positively. We know that their brains are growing at rapid rates and therefore require the appropriate educational environment; one that will have positive and long-term effects on their Norbeck Summer Camp Lessonslifespans. Introducing these positive effects early on enables them to become permanent parts of their lives- something they can carry on through all the stage of life.

We help children grow positively by teaching them the values and habits of their environment. Using Montessori methodologies, they are shown how to place things into categories and relationships that are useful in discovering and learning their surroundings. Such as:

  • how things workNorbeck Montessori
  • the real from the pretend
  • their own personal interests and talents
  • personal boundaries
  • self-discipline
  • enough independence to ask their questions and to think about the events in their world
  • to appreciate the natural laws which govern our planet
  • how to use their imaginations positively to adapt and to contribute
